Few plants truly live up to the names given to them, but the butterfly bush is definitely an exception. It is deciduous to semi-evergreen and has a weeping form that gets 5-12 feet tall by 4-15 feet wide. They are fast growing and grow in virtually any soil so anyone can grow them. I have one that I planted two years ago that is already 5 feet tall by 3 feet wide with purple spikes. Most importantly, the butterflies (and the occasional hummingbird) flock to this bush every day! Place the bush in a location where you will see it often. We have had several visitors comment on the number of butterflies in our yard.
